Printing in Action
Meridian is sponsoring the Annual Beloit Chamber Dinner and wanted to send something out to attendees ahead of time. The theme for this year’s event is The Power of Purpose. With that in mind we wanted to create a mailer piece with purpose! Our purpose was to show recipients part of what Meridian does by showing them how their mailer was printed. In essence, the journey it took from a plain piece of card stock to the mailer that they are currently holding in their hands. The HP Indigo 3600 was used to print the mailer and the envelope label. To add a finish to the piece we added a high gloss UV coating on one side, leaving the other side un-coated. After the coating process, we then scored and folded the piece with a special angle cut to complete the finished look!
Creating That “Wow” Factor
To make this mailer stand out we used NFC technology. By placing an NFC sticker on the inside of each, it allowed the end user to view a video of how their mailer was created with just the tap of an NFC enabled device.
How does this work, you may ask? For an Android device, all the user would need to do is tap the NFC sticker and the video pops up. Usually NFC is already activated but, if it’s not, Android users can activate it by doing the following:

- Go to Settings > More.
- Tap on the “NFC” switch to activate it. The Android Beam function will also automatically turn on.
- If Android Beam does not automatically turn on, just tap it and select “Yes” to turn it on.
With NFC technology growing quickly in popularity, Apple does have plans to unlock NFC capabilities soon. However, for now, iPhone users will have to download an app to activate NFC on their phone. We recommend the Simply NFC app, but there are many to choose from.
